The popular Pattaya Windsurfing Championship Thailand 2008 was staged on Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, from 13 – 15 June 2008. There were many windsurfers from both Thai and International windsurfing associations participating.

On June 14, 2008, Pattaya City Council, the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, Pattaya Airports Authority of Thailand (AAT), Thai Airways International and the Sports Authority of Thailand, collaborated to organize the Thailand Windsurfing Championship 2008, on Jomtien Beach, Pattaya. Mr. Itthipol Khunpluem, Mayor of Pattaya City, who is also president of the Windsurfing Association of Thailand, chaired the opening of the competition along with the Sports Authority of Thailand and representatives of local government and the private sector.

The committee of the competition categorized the surfers into 5 teams such as: Imgo Overall, RSX Male and Female Youth, Slalom, Formula and Young Windsurfer. The organizers\' purpose was to promote the windsurfing sport generally and especially to discourage the youth from drug-taking and to spend their free time productively engaged in sports. To this end, a standard training project for interested Youth was started, in order to broaden their knowledge of windsurfing. It was also intended to upgrade and develop the quality of Thai windsurfers to bring them up to international standards, and also to prepare the surfers of the Thai National team to enter the Olympic Games in China in 2008. In addition, there will be other competitions coming up, such as the Asian Beach Sports Competition in Bali, Indonesia and the Asian Windsurfing Championship 2008, at the end of this year.
