Two teenagers, on a motorbike, snatched a bag from a female office worker to get money for whiskey and to play computer games. They tried to ride away, but crashed into a car. One of the thieves was caught, but the other one escaped. On 20 September 2007, at 12:30 AM, Police Lieutenant Colonel Santi Chai-niranam rushed to the scene of a bag snatching in front of I.T.C. Inter. Office Center, on Soi Moo Baan Rungland, South Pattaya. One of the two teenaged perpetrators was detained.
At the scene, Miss Krisana Fack-thong (39), from Bangkok, who is working as an office assistant in Pattaya, was waiting for help. She was injured on the left arm as a result of having her bag snatched. She said that she was on the way home from her office when two teenagers, on a motorbike, approached and snatched her bag. She was thrown down as a result of the snatching. The two teens went straight to the bottom of the Soi but crashed into a car on the side street. They fell over and the car’s owner managed to detain one of the thugs. The other one managed to get on a black and white Yamaha Air Blade motorbike, with a red license plate, and rode away.
The detained teenager was Mr. Grieng-grai Piya-Isara-ramakul, nickname “Noi” (16), from Konkaen Province. Police confiscated evidence, including the snatched bag, which contained 1600 baht, in cash, and some documents.
Mr. Grieng-grai said that he was in his room with a katoey friend, in Soi Sunee, South Pattaya, when Mr. Fang (16), his close friend, came by to invite him out to play computer games. On the way, they encountered Miss Krisana and noticed her shoulder bag. Mr. Fang persuaded him to snatch the bag so they could get money to play games and buy whiskey. After they snatched the bag, they attempted to run away, but they lost control of the motorbike and crashed into a car. Mr. Grieng-grai was detained, but Mr. Fang managed to escape.
Mr. Grieng-grai was arrested and charged with snatching and running. Police will attempt to find and arrest Mr. Fang, his partner in crime, as soon as possible.
